The Flood
Baiyun Village, Yuncheng Prefecture.
In a low house at the Foot of the Mountain, an elderly Old Person felt that the torrential rain outside was not right.
The dark sky was covered with dark clouds, so dense that no light could be seen. Everywhere was the sound of “splashing” rain, and occasionally a thunderbolt boomed in the sky, illuminating the small ditch not far away.
The small ditch, which had been dry for a long time, was now covered with rainwater, gurgling and spreading outward.
In the Courtyard in front of the door, the potholes on the ground were already filled with rainwater, threatening to pour into the House.
The Old Person thought it was bad and quickly went Inside the House, patting the two tightly closed doors in the inner room, and shouted, “Shanzi, Old Woman, wake up, the Flood is coming, let’s go quickly.”
He used great force, and coupled with the occasional thunder outside, the people Inside the House had already been awakened. Hearing this, they quickly put on their Clothes and came out.
A young Man in his early twenties frowned, listening to the sound of the rain outside, and quickly said, “Dad, I’ll go to the Village Chief’s House and ask him to notify the Villagers quickly. You and Mom take Xiaoxia and them to the back Mountain first to pack up.”
After speaking, the young Man put on his Raincoat and went into the rain in the dark.
Before long, faint lights lit up sporadically in the dark Village, and a burst of gong and drum sounds exploded in the rainy night, accompanied by various Shouts.
Shanzi, while beating the broken copper gong in his hand, shouted loudly, “The Flood is coming, everyone quickly pack up and go to the back Mountain.”
He roared hoarsely, but it was not very clear due to the cover of the heavy rain and thunder.
Fortunately, the Village Chief’s family was already awake, and at this time, they were also knocking on doors to call people from house to house.
More and more Houses lit up with dim yellow lights, and there were Shouts everywhere, mixed with the chaotic sound of rain and occasional thunder, making this rainy night a mess.
Seeing that several families were still closing their doors tightly, with no sign of waking up at all, Shanzi quickly stepped forward and slammed on those closed doors.
Soon, a voice came from Inside the House, “Coming, packing up, Shanzi, you quickly go and see Liu the Madman. He goes crazy when it rains, and he probably doesn’t know what’s happening now.”
Shanzi was stunned, responded, and quickly ran to the dilapidated Thatched Hut not far away.
The precarious door was hitting particularly hard in the wind and rain, as if it would collapse in the next second.
Before even entering, he heard a crazy voice.
“Xiuyun, Xiuyun, don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, it’s okay, it’s okay, Xiao Bao is with me, look, Xiao Bao is also scared.
Xiao Bao, be good, it’s just raining, don’t cry, Dad is here!”
The Thatched Hut was dark, and only the Man’s strange voice and the “splashing” sound of rain Outside the House could be heard.
Shanzi suddenly shivered and tentatively Shouted Inside the House, “Uncle Liu, the Village can’t stay any longer, the Flood is coming soon, let’s go.”
The strange voice Inside the House was quiet for a moment, but there was no answer.
Shanzi continued, “Uncle Liu, come with us to the Mountain, if it’s too late, the Village will be flooded.”
As soon as these words came out, Liu the Madman immediately walked out of the House, holding a dark thing in his hand, and while shaking the thing in his hand, he roared, “Nonsense, you’re talking Nonsense, there’s no Flood, where is the Flood, if you dare to talk Nonsense again, I’ll beat you to death, get out, get out.”
Shanzi was startled by the roar.
It happened that the rain was getting heavier and heavier. The original “splashing” sound became a “splashing” sound. It was as if a big crack had opened in the sky, and someone was holding a large basin and constantly pouring rain down, hitting him so hard that he couldn’t open his eyes.
Not far away were the Villagers hurrying to escape to the Mountain, and the accumulated water under their feet was getting deeper and deeper. The water that was originally only at the ankles was now up to the calves.
If they didn’t leave now, once the Dams on the Mountain collapsed, they would definitely be washed away by the Flood.
Gritting his teeth, he took a step forward, grabbed Liu the Madman’s arm tightly, and walked towards the back Mountain.
Liu the Madman became uncooperative, shouting, “Don’t touch me, I want to be with Xiuyun and Xiao Bao, you bad Man, let go of me, let go of me.”
Shanzi ignored the other party’s roar and could only pull him hard and run towards the back Mountain.
The original Quarter Hour journey up the Mountain took a full Two Quarter Hour because of Liu the Madman’s struggle.
Seeing that he was about to reach the top of the Mountain, Shanzi pulled Liu the Madman and walked up more quickly.
However, at this moment, a loud noise suddenly rang out at the Foot of the Mountain.
With a “bang,” the Flood mixed with Mud and Sand instantly submerged the entire Baiyun Village.
Those dilapidated Thatched Huts could not withstand such a violent Flood at all, and before the turbulent water flowed through, they could not wait to collapse.
Shanzi was a little stunned when he saw the water flowing at his feet that was very close to him.
The water flowing under his feet was turbulent and rapid, and the Large Stone at the Village Entrance with the Village name carved on it had also been washed away by the Flood.
Those Thatched Huts and fields that had been rebuilt for less than a year were now submerged by the turbid water, and their original appearance could not be seen.
The people on the Hillside saw the Two People standing there in a daze and shouted anxiously, “Come up quickly, what are you waiting for, waiting to be washed away by the Flood?”
Shanzi suddenly came back to his senses, looked at the water flowing closer and closer to his feet, grabbed Liu the Madman and struggled to walk towards the top of the Mountain.
However, Liu the Madman pushed him away and looked at his empty hands, “Xiao Bao, where’s my Xiao Bao, Xiao Bao is gone, Xiuyun, Xiuyun, Xiuyun is also gone.
Xiao Bao and Xiuyun are gone.”
He stared blankly at his hands, his eyes full of disbelief.
Shanzi was pushed to the ground and quickly said, “Xiao Bao and Xiuyun are all up there, let’s go up quickly, we can’t delay.”
After speaking, he quickly grabbed him and walked towards the Mountain.
The people on the Hillside also quickly reached out to pull the Two People up together.
However, the next second, two painful cries for Help came from the raging Flood.
“Help, uh, Help, Help.”
A Woman and a Child were desperately holding onto the Driftwood, shouting for Help to the people on the Mountain.
Liu the Madman stopped in place and stared at the people who were rising and falling in the Flood, shouting, “Xiao Bao, Xiuyun, my Xiao Bao, Xiao Bao and Xiuyun haven’t come up yet, I’m going to save them, save them.”
As he said that, he was about to jump into the raging water.
Shanzi quickly grabbed him, looked at the Two People in the center of the Flood who were desperately holding onto the Driftwood, and shouted towards the Mountain, “There are people in the Flood, come and save them.”
As soon as these words came out, the Village Chief and two young men ran down quickly. Just as they threw the Rope in their hands down, Liu the Madman suddenly shouted, “Xiao Bao, Xiuyun, don’t be afraid, I’m coming to save you, don’t be afraid.”
After saying that, he plunged into the Flood.
