Chapter 37: Kissing the Goddess?
After class that day, Suikoto-san came to my seat, blushing, and said, “We’re going on a date, right?” She said.
We were supposed to go to the aquarium in the next town over.
The classmates around us were paying attention to us, but not as much as in the morning.
If you keep on pretending to be her boyfriend, it will gradually become the norm and no one will care.
But only Kaho was staring at us with a stronger gaze than in the morning.
I looked back at her and she looked away awkwardly.
Should I explain the situation to Kaho?
But only with your permission.
We left school, took a bus to the JR station and stood on the platform.
Beyond the platform on the other side, we can see the mountains and the setting sun.
A six-car train has arrived at the platform.
It has a silver body with orange lines.
I went in the door first, and the car was empty.
I sat down at the end of the long seat, and Mizukoto sat down right next to me.
Their legs and hips are very close to each other, and I can feel their soft touch.
I looked at Mizukoto-san with a red face and she looked back at me with a blush on her cheeks.
“What’s wrong, Haruhito?”
“No… There’s no one here, so I thought I’d get away.”
“I want to be right next to you, Haruto. Can’t you?”
“Not no, but…”
I’m at the end of the row, so I can’t run away even if I wanted to.
I gave up.
Well, maybe it’s a good thing there’s no one else in the car.
Suqin-san says in a bouncy voice.
It’s our own private charter!
That’s true. That’s how it’s going to be.
“This way, no matter how much we flirt, they won’t say anything.”
Suikin-san smiled beautifully and looked into my eyes.
Her silver hair sways softly.
“There’s no point in pretending to be someone you’re not.”
“It’s not for nothing.”
What do you mean?
“It’s good practice, right? Before we show them off at school. Besides, I think it’s better to be aware that we’re lovers at all times, so that we’re less likely to be caught in a moment of crisis.”
“I guess that’s just the way it is.”
I think that’s the way it’s supposed to be. So what do we do now?”
“Isn’t that up to Suikin-san?”
“I hope you decide.”
When I said that, Mizukoto-san lightly laid her cheek on my shoulder as if she was trying to pamper me.
I think we’ve done enough loverly things already.
What more is there to say?
Mizukoto is calling you by your first name. We hugged.
I’m in trouble, and then I realize there’s something I need to tell you before that.
It’s about Kaho.
“I thought I should tell Kaho that I’m pretending to be Mizukoto-san’s girlfriend.”
“I don’t like that.”
“But you don’t have to treat Sasaki-san specially. I think it’s fine if she thinks of us as her boyfriend and girlfriend just like everyone else.”
“So, Haruhi-kun likes Sasaki-san after all?”
“It’s… I think it might be.
I’m sure you’ll be able to find a way to get a good deal on the newest additions to your family.
And he puffs out his cheeks and he stares at me.
“We’re pretending to be lovers, aren’t we?”
I don’t need you to confirm that, do I?
“Do you usually talk about other girls when you’re flirting with her?”
“Uh… You’re right, I don’t think I will.
Right? Haruhito, you’re so mean.”
“I won’t forgive you unless you do something very loverly instead!”
I said that and Suikin-san grabbed my hand like she didn’t want to let me go.
I’m in trouble.
What do we do?
What’s the most loverly thing you’ve ever done?
“Uh, do you want a hug?”
That’s what I did for lunch today.
“Like a pat on the head or something.”
“That’s tempting, but… But isn’t it a little less loverly than a hug?”
I turned my head.
What do you got?
“Kissing… I shouldn’t have kissed you.”
I mumbled something.
I thought about that for a second this morning, but it’s out of the question.
I don’t think it’s the kind of thing you do when you’re pretending to be lovers.
Suqin-san’s face turned red as she looked at me.
I still think it’s a dead end.
“I don’t think Suikin-san would like it if I kissed you, so I won’t.”
“No, I don’t mind.”
“If that’s what you want, Haruhito, I’m totally fine with it. No, I’m glad. If we show it off in front of everyone, I’m sure no one will suspect anything.
Mizukoto-san said in a heated voice and looked at me expectantly.
Her blue eyes are slightly moist and her cheeks are upturned.
Apparently, it’s really okay to do it.
No, but that’s…
I won’t forgive you unless you do it. You’ll do whatever I want, right, Haruhito? I want you to kiss me, Haruhito.
“Yeah, but… But…”
I hesitated and looked at Suikoto’s soft, fresh lips.
I’d be lying if I said Mizukoto’s proposal wasn’t fascinating.
I may never get to kiss a pretty girl like this again.
I hugged her shoulder.
Suikoto-san’s eyes widened and her face turned red as if it couldn’t get any worse.
“Are you sure you want to do this?”
“Because Suqin-san asked me to do so.”
Suikoto-san closed her eyes and surrendered herself to me.
All that’s left is for me to kiss you.
I gently moved closer to Suikoto’s face.
My mouth will touch your mouth.
Suqin-san murmurs curiously.
I just walked away from Suikoto.
Suqin opened her eyes and rubbed her cheek.
“I didn’t want to kiss you on the lips or anything.”
“Is that why you kissed me on the cheek?”
“That’s what I mean.”
Well, you can’t just casually kiss each other on the lips when you’re not really dating.
Mizukoto-san glared at me in dissatisfaction and then giggled after a while.
“I’m sorry I got my hopes up.”
“Were you expecting me?”
You’re asking me that?
No, I take that question back.
“I’ll answer you. A kiss on the cheek would make me happy, but a kiss on the lips would make me happier. I’m hoping you’ll do that for me, Haruhito.
“Well, Suikin-san hates men, so I thought you didn’t like that sort of thing.”
“It’s okay because it’s you, Haruhito. I’ve never done that with anyone else. Have you ever kissed a girl, Haruhito?”
I shook my head.
Of course, I never did that with Kaho.
“Then, when Haruhi-kun and I kiss each other on the lips, it’s our first kiss, isn’t it?”
If you ever do.
“I’m… I think it’d be good if there was. I’d be happy if you came to think so, too. When that happens, I want you to kiss me properly this time.”
Suqin-san smiled, looking very happy.
I noticed that when I heard what Suqin said.
Considering Suikin-san’s words and actions since this morning, I’ve come to a certain conclusion.
I’ve been under the misconception that Kaho likes me for a long time, and I’m not sure I’m quite sure of my own feelings.
Maybe Mr. Suikin doesn’t just want to pretend to be lovers.
Maybe he really likes me.
