Chapter 144: Ethan’s Doubts
He takes out his cell phone and calls Kanzaki.
“Boss! Did you see the TV? It’s a big mess!
”Oh, you’re becoming famous somehow.”
What are you talking about? I’ve been declared a demon and I’m being hunted by the government!
Yuuma is upset… but Kanzaki says, “Oh well…” Kanzaki soothes him.
It’s hard work, that’s for sure. They won’t be able to find you unless you’re ‘metalized’ or ‘metal armored’.
“It’s… I don’t know…”
It is true what they say, but it does not mean that the anxiety will be relieved.
”Well, it’s understandable that you’re worried. I’ll talk to Aisha about it. Don’t go all ‘metallic’ on me!
Yuma hangs up the phone and lets out a deep sigh.
I didn’t mean for any of this to happen. Let’s just go home and calm down. Yuma went home with heavy steps.
International Organization for Dungeon Research in Israel.
An emergency meeting was being held there. The agenda was more serious than ever before, and the researchers who attended the meeting all had cloudy faces.
“This is the Duke of Blue, identified in India. The image is unclear, but it is a humanoid demon with a reptilian appearance.”
The conference room is filled with a heavy atmosphere. The researcher operating the projector displays the next image in an indifferent manner.
“This is an insect demon believed to be the ‶Green Duke Duke‶ from the ‶Green Dungeon‶ in Brazil. This is not a clear image either, as it was only captured from a distance.”
I can hear them roaring. The topic of this meeting is the simultaneous outbreaks of demons around the world. Many of them have crawled out onto the surface.
The problem is that even demons with unique properties called Unique Monsters have appeared and gone out of the dungeon.
There are four of them. Three Duke Dukes and one Lord of Lords.
“Next up is the Duke of Duke and Lord of Lords, appearing in Japan.”
A large screen in the conference room is now displaying a clear image. It was a humanoid monster with horns and fangs. Its entire body was red, and flames erupted from its back and shoulders.
“Oh, so this is the Red Duke… It looks just like the Ogre from the White Dungeon.
The American scientist James was the first to express his surprise.
You stare bitterly at the images and glare at the red ogre fighting the Seeker, the Japanese explorer. It swings its fists and spits flames that melt the ground and buildings.
If you’re wounded, you heal in the blink of an eye.
“There’s a Duke Duke out there who’s such a good fighter… It’s a bit of a nuisance, but he’s dead, isn’t he? That’s a blessing in disguise.”
Everyone nods at James’ words, but the chair, Senior Scientist Maya Berger, closes her eyes and shakes her head.
No, the question is who defeated this Duke. Bring up the next image.
The researcher who is displaying the video data on the PC says “Yes. and clicks another folder to show the stored data.
A black humanoid monster was projected on the screen.
He blasts the red Duke Duke away and attacks with unbelievable speed. The Duke tries to fight back, but even his searing fire is no match for the black monster.
“This is… The Black Monarch Lord…”
Overwhelming strength and brutality. The Japanese Seeker attacks with water, lightning, and fire magic, but it seems to have no effect at all.
“This Lord in Black escaped after defeating the Duke and is still unaccounted for. The most dangerous one at the moment is this monarch lord.”
The researcher shuts her mouth at Maya’s words, and silence prevails.
Amidst this tense atmosphere, one of the researchers opens his mouth.
“That demon… Is it really the Monarch Lord?”
All eyes are on the researcher who spoke up. Maya wrinkles her brow.
What do you mean? Ethan.
Ethan Noble smiles as the water is pointed at him and he looks at the black monster in the video.
“I know he’s certainly strong, but isn’t it a bit premature to declare him the Monarch Lord?”
“A Japanese company called El-Seed has used a device to measure the mana index of demons. The result is that a mana index of 10,000 or more, it’s reasonable to assume that it’s a Monarch Lord.”
“How reliable is that mana measuring device?”
“It’s a prototype, but subsequent experiments have shown that it’s quite accurate. I think we can trust them.”
Maya says it out loud, but Ethan doesn’t seem convinced.
“If it’s over 10,000, that means you don’t have an accurate reading.”
Do you really need to take any more readings than that? Ethan, I don’t know what you’re questioning!
Ethan replies to Maya with a strong tone of voice.
It’s Orpheus’ tablet.
“When the three Duke Dukes came to earth, there was a distinct change in the tablet. The ore was recorded as glowing faintly. But the ore representing the monarch lord was unchanged. Don’t you think it’s strange?”
Maya shakes her head.
“Ethan… I understand your concern, but we don’t know everything about the Orpheus tablet. Even if we didn’t expect the Black Monarch Lord to appear, that doesn’t make it different.”
“Yes, you’re right. I’m not saying that I’m not the monarch Lord.
Ethan raises his hands and shrugs, and Maya sighs.
“So, our first priority will be to deal with the [Lord of Black Monarch] that has appeared in Japan, while gathering information from other countries. We must also consider sending an international clan of explorers to Japan.”
“Then why not ask the British? I’m sure their top explorer clan has just finished a major defeat and they’re free.”
So said the Greek physicist Nikias. He was a relatively new PI and had a good knowledge of international organizations.
“Right. Let’s pick up any explorer clans we can send to Japan, including the British.”
Maya ended the emergency meeting and Ethan left the conference room. Outside, Clark waits anxiously.
“How was it? It was about a unique monster, right?”
They walk down the stairs and down a long corridor to get back to their laboratory.
“Ethan… Do you still have doubts about the Monarch Lord who showed up this time?”
“Yes, I suppose it is. The Orpheus tablet has never failed to react when a unique monster of a unique nature appears.
“But it’s not an absolute certainty. It’s too small a sample.”
Sure, it’s just…
Ethan stops and looks up.
“That monarch Lord… I think he’s too strong.”
