Chapter 169: A Blank Room
“D~didn’t I tell you~! I’ve told you a million times! Are you even listening to me?
Kanzaki sits at his long desk and yells at you with a disgusted expression on his face. Sitting opposite him is the chief inspector of the Dungeon Association, Kosaka Hideki.
I’m listening. But I don’t believe you.
Kosaka’s glasses without rims are shining. Kanzaki glared at the other with an annoyed “Oh?” Kanzaki glared at the other with an irritated look.
We’re at the headquarters of the Japan Dungeon Association (JDA) in Tokyo’s Chiyoda Ward. That’s where the interview with Kanzaki was taking place.
This is the second time since the black dungeon disappeared.
“Yuuma’s not a dangerous demon! He just ingested some strange Demon Ore in the Black Dungeon!”
Why didn’t you report it?
“That’s right. You guys might make a big deal out of this and take Yuuma into custody. I kept quiet for the safety of my employees.”
Kosaka sighs and takes off her glasses. She wipes the lenses with a cloth from her pocket and puts them on again.
Mr. Kanzaki, I’m sure you’re aware of this. The laws governing dungeons are very specific. In addition, the rules set by the Dungeon Association must be followed by all Seekers in the country. You’re breaking every single one of those rules.”
“I couldn’t tell you because you guys were making too much noise. You may have helped people but you’ve never hurt anyone! Why are you making such a big deal about it?
Kousaka is fed up with Kanzaki. This man doesn’t understand the importance of what’s going on.
The black armor is now the government’s biggest problem. If we continue to conceal its existence… we can be sure that Kanzaki will be arrested.
In the next room, his subordinate Kurumishita Kurumishita was interviewing another person.” Another person who had attacked the ‘Black Dungeon’.
Aisha Kisaragi’s interview.
The one snarling in the interrogation room was the Dungeon Association official, Kurumoshita. He was furious at the egotistical attitude of the scholar in front of him.
“How long is this hearing gonna go on? If you want to hear from me, you’re gonna have to get somebody smarter than that. You’re not gonna get it.”
Aisha Kisaragi speaks up with a nonchalant expression on her face. Kurumoshita looks like she’s about to explode, but she holds her ground and swallows her anger.
“You are suspected of breaching your duty to report to the JDA, harbouring the culprit and destroying evidence. If you don’t answer us now, we’ll have no choice but to hand you over to the police!”
Is that supposed to be a threat? You’d have a better chance of making sense to me if you went to the police. I’d appreciate it if you’d just hand him over.”
Aisha replies while twirling her fingers through her long hair. Aisha glared at her with angry eyes.
–I’ve heard he’s a mad scientist… but his attitude towards people makes me angry! But don’t let him slow you down.
He straightens his posture and clears his throat before continuing.
You know that, don’t you? You have a very bad reputation among the researchers. Some scholars even suspect that you’re the one who created the black armor. For your sake and Mitaka Yuma’s, please tell us everything honestly!”
“I’ve been honest with you from the beginning. Yuma swallowed a special magic ore in the Black Dungeon, that’s all. I’m an expert and I’m testifying. He’s definitely a normal human who’s not in any danger.
What kind of magic ore are you drinking? !
Aisha answers in a detached manner, but Kurumoshita takes a swipe at her.
“Well, you know… a demon came out of the darkness… I didn’t see it clearly. I’m sure it’s a new species, maybe.”
She’s definitely lying! Huoyao thought so, but Aisha had played him for a trick and he couldn’t pursue the matter any further.
When I open my eyelids, a vague light shines through.
After a few moments of blankness, Yuma remembered the situation he was in.
–Yeah, well… I… Louis and Tennoji beat you…
An oxygen mask was placed over his mouth, and his arms and legs were bandaged. When I tried to move my body, I felt pain all over.
Looks like he got beat up pretty bad.
Yuma lies on his back and looks up at the ceiling. What’s going to happen now? Will he get caught by the police or something?
I was quiet on the bed, thinking about that.
There is no sign of anyone. Yuma moves his head and looks around. The walls, floor, and ceiling of the room are all white. There is an electrocardiogram machine next to the bed, and it is pulsating in a steady rhythm.
The room is about 20 tatami mats in size. There is a bed in the middle of the room, and surveillance cameras in the four corners of the ceiling.
You’re watching me with that thing?
Yuma says, “Ouch!” Yuma says, “Ouch!” and slowly raises himself up. He pulls off a thin sheet of bedding, removes his oxygen mask, and sits up, placing the soles of his feet on the floor.
I could feel the cool sensation on my feet.
When he stands up, he has a momentary dizziness and his legs feel dizzy. He puts his hand on the ECG monitor and looks in front of him and sees a white door.
Doesn’t look like there’s another way in or out.
Yuma peels off the EKG cord attached to his body and walks unsteadily to the door.
There was some kind of sensor next to the door.
I hold my hand over it, but nothing happens. but nothing happens. Yuma bangs on the door.
Excuse me! Anybody home?
There’s no reaction. Metallization might be able to destroy a door like this. But that would make things even more complicated.
Yuma banged on the door again and called out.
“Um~, I’m hungry…”
The room was deserted, and the only sound in the room was my stomach growling.
The parking lot of the building where the Dungeon Association is located. Kanzaki called out to Aisha as she was getting into her car.
Aisha’s eyebrows twitch as she sees Kanzaki rushing in.
You didn’t say anything else at the hearing, did you?
Aisha asks him out of the blue… and he replies “I didn’t say that!” Kanzaki replies.
“But, are you sure? I told you that Yuma changed in the Black Dungeon just like you said. I think it’s time to tell the truth…
Kanzaki looks anxious but Aisha shakes her head.
“We don’t know what will happen to Yuma. The most important thing is to make him think he’s not in danger. And if you tell him that the power you’ve acquired is not Lord Monarch, but King King… You’ll cause even more trouble than you already have!”
“That’s… It might be, but…”
“After this, they’ll probably discuss whether or not to get rid of Yuma.”
“Dispose of it”? You mean kill him? That’s not gonna happen!
Aisha took out her phone from the pocket of her lab coat and held up the screen in front of Kanzaki.
“This is the latest poll. Over 80% of the public want the black armor killed. The Iwashiro administration’s approval rating is plummeting because they’re slowing down. Whether or not to kill Yuma has become the most important issue for politicians!”
Kanzaki stared at his phone with a grim face.
